Residential Lighting

These wall mounted lumineers contain halogen lamps.  The fixture can be manipulate in any direction.  Incredibly bright to look - alot of glare - and the fixture can reach almost extreme temperatures

Illumination of the stairs. Recessed fixture with a small halogen lamp. Lamp itself is exposed - not that attractive. Does effectively illuminate the stair, and is more effective than overhead lighting. However when they aren't in use, the fixture is rather unattractive and does stand out.

Same lumineers and lamps as in the kitchen. The same scalloping effect, but perhaps this application it is more successful. Creates a bit of drama, could be used to highlight a feature of the room, e.g. a sculpture.

Another pendant fixture, also contains a halogen lamp. These are a good source of general illumination, but are let down by the shadows they cast on the ceiling.
Pendant lights with a small halogen lamp - possibly from the  'T' series. These lights are more effect as they're closer to the working surface. Simple glass shade.
Recessed spot lights, approximately 100mm, directional. Halogen lamps. Very bright and creating strong scallop effect on walls. Lights are located in a kitchen in a double height ceiling. They're very glarey to look at but the amount of light that actually falling on the bench below is a little dim. The bench is light in colour and therefore  reflective which help improve the situation, but it seems the best point of light is higher rather than at a hight where you're working.

Light from the fish tank. Very cool fluorescent lamp. Gives off a blueish glow.
The fishys like it :)
Overall the lighting in the space is rather ineffective. It lights the ceiling well, but work surfaces are slightly under-lit. More task lighting would really help.

  1. Track Lighting - If you have a small apartment, you will want to make use of the space and not have it cluttered with lamps and more lamps. Track lighting is increasing in popularity and, when done right, can look artful and elegant.
